DESCRIPTION:
Walk through time to explore Calgary’s oldest (but not first!) cemetery. Meet early Calgarians and learn about the noteworthy events and ordinary people who shaped the vibrant city that Calgary is today. Each 1.5 hour tour is as unique as the guests who come on it and may include stops at the Field of Honour, the Potter’s Field, the Mausoleum and many more!
HIGHLIGHTS:
Each tour is based upon the desires of the guests so there is not a set route. Therefore, each tour could highlight different people. Some of the people in the cemetery include;
AE Cross, Bob Edwards, James Macleod, George Murdoch, James Lougheed, and more.
DON'T FORGET:
Tours are not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers.
Pets are not permitted.
No bathroom facilities are available.
Meeting point is NOT Calgary Tower.
Union Cemetery is a Victorian-era cemetery that was originally farmland and it is full of hills, walls and steep drops. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
Reservations are not necessary. Walk-ups are welcome. However, our guides are busy and we do not want to waste their time, so tours do require 2 reservations 12 hours prior to the start time of the tour for the tour to commence. We recommend strongly that you make a reservation. Reservations also allow us to put on more guides if the demand requires it so we can keep tour group sizes smaller.
